Prop 65 FAQs

What is Proposition 65?

Proposition 65 — or "Prop 65" — was enacted by the State of California in 1986 as the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act. It requires companies to provide clear and reasonable warnings to consumers if their products contain chemicals identified by the State of California as known to cause cancer or reproductive toxicity. With over 800 chemicals currently on the list, Prop 65 is among the strictest reporting laws in the nation.

? Prop 65 does not ban the sale or use of any product. It is a right-to-know law — a warning does not mean a product is unsafe.

What does a Prop 65 warning say?

The State of California has identified the following as clear and reasonable warnings for consumer products:

  • "WARNING: This product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm."
  • "WARNING: Cancer and Reproductive Harm — www.P65Warnings.ca.gov"

Which products require a Prop 65 warning?

Consumer products distributed or sold in California are subject to Prop 65 warning requirements when they contain amounts of listed chemicals that exceed the State of California's daily exposure thresholds based on average consumption. Naturally occurring levels of chemicals found in foods do not require warnings.

What chemicals are subject to Prop 65?

The State of California maintains a routinely updated list of over 800 chemicals identified as carcinogens or reproductive toxicants. You can view the current list at oehha.org/prop65.html.

Why do some Xyngular products carry this warning?

If you've lived in California, you know these warnings are everywhere — they're a standard requirement for nearly any organization doing business in the state. Because Xyngular is committed to the highest standards of transparency, we voluntarily chose to include Prop 65 warnings on products sold to consumers in California — before we were ever required to do so.

What we put in our products is intentional. And so is what we leave out. Every Xyngular formula is designed with integrity, tested for purity and potency, and aligned with our Purity Promise.

Where do these chemicals come from?

Many common ingredients and minerals — like cocoa, calcium, and others — can contain trace levels of Prop 65-listed chemicals such as lead and other heavy metals. These occur naturally and are widely distributed through soil, air, water, and food ingredients.

⚠️ Xyngular does not add lead or heavy metals to any of our products. Heavy metals are among the ingredients on our No List — ingredients we refuse to include, now or in the future.

What levels trigger a Prop 65 warning label?

California's threshold limits are among the strictest in the nation. For carcinogens, anything above the "No Significant Risk Level" requires a label — defined as the level of exposure that would result in one case of cancer in 100,000 individuals hypothetically exposed to high doses of the chemical every day over their lifetime.

Is Xyngular compliant with federal safety guidelines?

Absolutely — and then some. Xyngular is fully compliant with all FDA federal guidelines for product safety. We go even further by aligning with the European Union's more rigorous ingredient standards, which restrict over 1,300 substances linked to toxicity, endocrine disruption, and long-term health risks. Prop 65 warning thresholds are often significantly stricter than federal guidelines — and Xyngular meets them all.

? Xyngular proudly stands behind the safety and quality of every product we make. What we leave out is just as intentional as what we put in. That's the Purity Promise.
